Berkeley Repertory Theatre Extends Monsoon Wedding

By popular demand, eight performances added—now playing through Sunday, July 2

Following an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences, and two weeks of sold-out previews, Berkeley Rep has announced that the world premiere musical of Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding will extend for an additional week. Originally scheduled to close on June 25, the beloved musical will now run through Sunday, July 2.

Berkeley Rep today announced that celebrated director Mira Nair will hold a free public event to discuss the creation of the world premiere musical, Monsoon Wedding. Audiences eager for the world premiere can get a sneak peek behind the scenes at Page to Stage on Monday, May 15 at 8pm. Page to Stage is free and open to the public but you must RSVP. Seating is not guaranteed.

Berkeley Rep Announces Full Casting for World Premiere of Monsoon Wedding

Joining the international cast is Bay Area resident Emielyn D. Das and actress Palomi Ghosh

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full and final casting for the world premiere of Monsoon Wedding. The musical stage production will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair and hosts a cast of 20 actors from around the globe. Joining the cast are Sunnyvale teen actress Emielyn D. Das (as Aliya) and theatre/film actress Palomi Ghosh (as Vijaya).

Much-beloved film becomes a musical at Berkeley Rep

Berkeley Rep today announced that single tickets for the world premiere of the new musical Monsoon Wedding will go on sale to the general public on Monday, November 14. Monsoon Wedding will have its world premiere at Berkeley Rep’s Roda Theatre next spring. Previews begin Friday, May 5, 2017 and the show runs through Sunday, June 25, 2017. Press night for Monsoon Wedding will be Friday, May 19, 2017.

What

Monsoon Wedding is the perfect storm that starts brewing when family members from around the world descend on Delhi for a nonstop four-day celebration of an arranged marriage between a modern upper middle-class Indian family’s only daughter and an Indian-American guy she’s never met. But the bride is having an affair, her father’s financial troubles deepen, and dark family secrets surface. The forecast calls for drama, love, hope, laughs, and a whole lot of rain.
