Learn the art of theatre through play the first Sunday each month with the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre’s Family Series! These interactive workshops are designed for families of all ages and levels. Family Series programs encourage arts awareness and exploration, nourish team work and parent/child bonds and sustain a creative family environment. In lieu of tuition, families attending these workshops are asked to bring a children’s book to be donated to local elementary school libraries.

Friday, September 5, 2008: Yellowjackets / written by Itamar Moses / directed by Tony Taccone
The season kicks off with the world premiere of an incisive play set in Berkeley and written by a Berkeley native. Nationally known playwright Itamar Moses returns to his hometown with a script set just around the corner in the halls of his alma mater, Berkeley High. When the school newspaper publishes an insensitive story, students suddenly find themselves embroiled in a volatile controversy—and even their teachers seem unprepared to deal with the repercussions. Artistic Director Tony Taccone directs Yellowjackets, a compelling collision of race and class that forces us to examine familiar surroundings with fresh eyes.
Show up at 6:30pm at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre for dinner with fellow teens and a discussion with a theatre professional prior to attending the play. Tickets are $10. For more information about Target® Teen Night call Teen Council at 510 647–2974 or e-mail teencouncil@berkeleyrep.org.
Founded in 2002, the Berkeley Rep Teen Council is a theatre youth group organized by teens for teens. Their goal is to foster the theatre audiences and professionals of tomorrow by opening channels of communication between teens, theatre professionals and the community at large. The Teen Council provides the opportunity for youth to participate in all aspects of the dramatic process: onstage, backstage and in the audience through their affiliation with Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Activities include poetry slams, improv nights, theatre workshops, field trips to see local theatre productions, a one-act play competition and festival and Target® Teen Night. Members actively plan and organize all Teen Council programs and are mentored by Berkeley Repertory Theatre staff. To become involved, please click here or contact the Teen Council at teencouncil@berkeleyrep.org or 510 647–2972.
